A career pitfall sounds more serious than it really is. It is actually a period of time when you might feel that your job/career is not all it is cracked up tobe and you might therefore make a disastrous career move at this point. Firstly, it is important to be aware that your career can very easily change, and circumstances, events and situations can occur that alter your attitude towards it. Secondly, bear in mind that there is no such thing as the perfect job, but some jobs have more favourable aspects to them than others.
Some of the reason career pitfalls are :
1. Attitude : blaming others, childish attitude, threatening attitude, destructive attitude.
2. Golden Hellos :cul de sacs, further irrational moves, biiting of more than you can chew.
3. Business awareness
We can avoid career pitfalls by :
1. Thinking strategically
2. Moving with the times
Thinking strategically, you are important, but in the context of the 'whole' organization , so avodi becoming 'self' - rather than company-oriented. This doesn't mean that you don't matter, because you do, but try to focus on what you want and then sell it int terms of what the company of pursuing.
Moving with the times, make the changes with the company, and where possible try to influence and be ready with those changes. One of the easiest ways to do this is to avoid remaining static in a job. Instead, build up new skills and reputation. It is comfortable to sick to what you are good at, but in the long term this too shortsighted. Take the initiative and start to drive your own career forward.
